The Beheerkaart Nat (BKN): a first project on top of the Spatial Data Infrastructure.
The Geo-Information and ICT Department (AGI - Holland) is the knowledge centre for geo-information and communication technology within the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat, RWS).
AGI is setting up a Geo-Information Infrastructure (GII) to harmonise use, content and format of the databases and digital maps.
One of the geo-information datasets in this GII is the Beheerkaart Nat, which contains information on all RWS water-related objects. The Beheerkaart has to fit into the strategy of AGI.
The Beheerkaart Nat will be centrally stored; however, local districts will be able to edit the database from their own office via Web services, particularly OGC-set specifications like WFS-T (Web Feature Service-Transactional).

A system to respond on “real-time” to Emergency demonstrates the power of the INSPIRE directive for the benefit of Government and Enterprises that deal with flows of hazardous materials, safety, and public health processes with critical dependencies, and volume-based dependencies ... all require real-time assessments across broad geographies!
As part of the INSPIRE program, the overall goal of the
ACE-GIS pilot project is to enhance the existing implementation of ISO/OGC Web Service interfaces in a context of e-infrastructure and Service Chaining to facilitate geo-spatially enabled information exchange, e-business and added-value services for decision making. It also aims to provide Catalog services (Registry) that enable users to discover and access metadata about existing services and to register new services and metadata.
IONIC introduced Disaster Management / Public Safety area working for major supporting agencies on major, ground-breaking programs.
When The Gas Explosion of Ghislenghien (Belgium) occured on 30 July 2004 , a demo has been created as an ACE-GIS pilot project to explain how could have GI Web Services and IONIC's interoperability technology assisted the regional authorities, fire department and police to be able to obtain specific information about the affected disaster area, to model the gas dispersion and submit emergency reports?
